We often publish news that Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute implements original ideas and creates amazing engineering solutions. Behind each of these results of creative activity is the author or a team of authors. And their main task is not only to create an object of intellectual property and ensure its legal protection, but also to transfer it to society (commercialize).
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has always promoted the emergence of new intellectual property and pays no less attention to improving their commercial efficiency. Because of that, the University approved the "Policy of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in the field of intellectual property", in which it established legal relations with the authors. The main tasks of the Policy is: establishment of the mode of intellectual property rights; acquisition of protection and commercialization of the objects of intellectual property rights (OIPR), owned by Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; ensuring timely and effective protection and management of OIPR; detection and prevention of violations by employees, students and other participants of the innovation process of the University's rights, of the results of creative activity carried out in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; ensuring a fair distribution of revenues from the commercialization of intellectual property, etc.
The authors' legal relations with the University are provided by agreements which are signed by teachers and students prior to admission to the University. In addition, the relationship between the University, the Creators and /or invited researchers may be governed by research contracts. Considerable attention in the Policy is paid to the issue of remuneration to authors for the use of their OIPR.
High-quality and reliable legal protection of OIPR and improvement of technology of their commercialization becomes crucial in increasing the usefulness of the University for society and its authority in the international arena.
