This year on 18 February, a group of students and employees of KPI visited places directly connected with the greatest manmade disaster of the -the accident at the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The basis of a group of 29 persons amounted to students of the Department graphics VPI, headed by the head of this Department Assistant Professor Tatiana Grigoryevna Osipovou. Also in the Group were older teachers of graphics B.B. Zahc and M.B. Shapovalenko, Head of the Department of international economics FMM Professor S. V. Voitko and Professor of chemical, polymer and silica engineering ICP and I.O. Mikulionok. The purpose of the trip was to conduct members of the photography and plenera in the framework of activities devoted to the 30th anniversary of the accident.
The bus departed from the NTUU "KPI" at 7 h. 40 min. and within two hours arrived at the checkpoint, "Dydyatki," standing on the verge of 30 kilometer exclusion zone. At the beginning of the eleventh us representative arrived, and the bus moved off exclusion zone. The Chernobyl disaster (and after him to the station itself) we have not met a single person or beast: only forever abandoned and dilapidated properties and buildings.
After laying flowers at the Wall of memory, one of the elements of a memorial to the lost liquidators on CHERNOBYL, we slowly have toured the station and hit into the viewing Pavilion, from which both the Palms opened views affected the 4th power unit. Next worked hundreds of people involved in the work of the construction of the additional protection and new safe confinement (NBK) of object "Shelter". With my own eyes we have seen almost ready for the "approaching" at the height of the dilapidated building huge unit 108 m, width 257 m and length of 150 m. In the ready NSC 40 000 tonnes will be "hidden" previously built sarcophagus this fall . The warranty period of operation of the NSC experts estimated in 100 years.
After a detailed and interesting story of an employee of the station about the events of the thirty years ' ago we were invited for dinner. By the way, the entrance to the dining room is only possible through "frame" that tests the most vulnerable places every visitor for radioactive contamination: his shoes, knee, hand and head.
And then, accompanied by the Deputy Chief Engineer of the CHERNOBYL on nuclear and radiation safety of Alexander Novikov bus moved to the "dead" town of Pripyat. After the third Checkpiont ("Dytyatky" and "Leliv"), we entered the town, prevailed by silence and radiation.
About the obtained impression we told hard enough, but in any case non left indifferent.
Finally, we made a group photo near a memorable sign on the edge of the town of Pripyat, which lasted only 16 years – since 1970 to 27.04.1986.
Safely after "test for radiation" on the Checkpoint "Leliv" and "Dytyatky", we returned back to Kiev.
