Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted the round table "Mechanism of Safety," dedicated to mechanical demining in Ukraine. The discussion brought together representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, international donors, Ukrainian manufacturers, and mine action operators.
The key topics included:
📌 the Ministry of Economy's state humanitarian demining program, including compensation for operators clearing agricultural land and the criteria for determining when mechanical equipment is appropriate for challenging terrain;
📌 the establishment of a specialized scientific platform under the Ministry of Defence, bringing together leading research institutions to study experience in countering emerging enemy weapons and threats;
📌 bridging the gap between developers' innovations and the real needs of deminers in the field, where simple, reliable, and easily repairable solutions are of greatest importance;
📌 Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute's two years of experience in mine action: the university was the first in Ukraine to introduce bachelor's and master's degree programs in humanitarian demining and now cooperates with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining.
