Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted an open lecture by 🇷🇴 Romanian scholar and lecturer Mihai Văcariu, known for his research in the fields of communication theory, philosophy, and cinema, and the director of the Romanian TV channel TVR Moldova, Nicolae Mocanu. The guests were accompanied by Ukrainian poet, writer, and public figure Oksana Stomina.
📃 The Romanian experts delivered an open lecture on the topic “Practical Cases of Countering Russian Disinformation: The Example of the 2024 Romanian Presidential Election”—discussing the mechanisms of propaganda dissemination, key disinformation narratives, and tools of influence actively employed during electoral processes.
ℹ️ The meeting took the form of a Q&A session, so KPI administration, faculty, and students were able not only to hear expert assessments but also to ask their own questions. In particular, the following aspects were discussed:
🔸 how modern disinformation works, undermining trust in state institutions, influencing electoral processes, and exacerbating societal polarization;
🔹 tools of manipulation during election campaigns: social media, emotional triggers, fake campaigns, and other methods of influencing the audience;
🔸 disinformation as a tool of authoritarian regimes and a serious threat to democracy;
🔹 practical methods for countering disinformation.
Special attention was paid to Romania’s experience in countering disinformation and Romania’s role as an important partner for Ukraine on the path to European integration 🇪🇺.
🤝 A working meeting was also held between Romanian colleagues and the KPI administration, during which they discussed prospects for partnership with Romanian universities and participation in joint European projects.
