World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development (WDC - Ukraine) was established in 2006 as a Ukrainian branch of World Data Centers for Solar-Earth Physics and Solid Earth Physics of Geophysical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a part of a structure of Educational Scientific Complex "Institute for Applied System Analysis" of the National Technical University of Ukraine " Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" on the basis of the Agreement on cooperation and scientific exchange between the Geophysical Center of Russian Academy of Sciences and the Educational Scientific Complex "Institute for Applied System Analysis " of the National Technical University of Ukraine " Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", and is focused on the direction of geoinformatics and sustainable development.WDC - Ukraine is a part of World of International Council of Science, its activities are carried out according to the "Guide for World Data Centers System", Constitution of WDS and other recommendations of the WDS Scientific Committee concerning the data policy:
- Ensuring the full and open exchange of data , metadata and products distributed in WDS, recognizing relevant international instruments, national policy and legislation;
- All distributed WDS data , metadata and products should be available with minimal delay in time and at minimal cost;
- All distributed WDS data, metadata and products in order to support science and education must be provided free or at a cost of reproduction.
The main tasks of WDC are collection, processing, preservation of scientific data and providing access to it for research, educational process, including new educational technologies and resources of e-libraries and archives; providing remote access to their own information resources to a wide range of scientists from universities and research institutions in Ukraine.The main activities of WDC - Ukraine :
