Temporary regulations on the organization of educational process in NTUU "KPI": 8.1 Features of the educational process of the Master



Master - education and qualification level of specialist, which provides a special extended knowledge and innovative skills, on the basis of Bachelor Degree.

A characteristic feature of professional education in the field of innovative economy must be a high level of methodological culture, creative methods of learning and ownership activities. And not only the methods of classical science focused on the search for a single solution, but the methods aimed at developing and implementing a broad interdisciplinary, multi approaches, the use of systems analysis to the selection of optimal solutions, solving unconventional, innovative applications.

According to the National Qualifications Framework, graduates of Master:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skill level, providing the ability to analyze, evaluate and compare alternatives generate original ideas in the relevant field of expertise;
  • Can apply their knowledge and competences that enable to solve problems in new, broader (multidisciplinary) context in the relevant field of expertise;
  • Able to integrate knowledge to solve complex problems under incomplete information taking into account the social and ethical responsibility for decisions;
  • Possess modern methods of experimentation and research can provide a reasonable interpretation of the results;
  • Can clearly prove convincingly to an audience of experts scientific information and its findings;
  • Have the ability to self-education and self-regulation.

Given the national qualifications framework can be formulated requirements for graduates of magistracy. Master has:

  • Be able to translate the obtained knowledge in innovative technologies, transforming new knowledge into concrete proposals, demonstrating creativity and flexibility in the application of knowledge, experience and methods;
  • Possess methodological knowledge, to be able to analyze, evaluate and compare alternatives concerning the problem, to be able to generate and optimize new solutions;
  • Own methods of research to date, the implementation of field experiments and simulation, give a reasonable interpretation of the results;
  • Be able to summarize and prepare for publication the results of scientific research;
  • Assess the impact of the decisions taken on the environment and society, carry professional and ethical responsibility;
  • Be ready for construction of teaching and considering the composition of the audience, the interests of students their age, professional and other features;
  • Be motivated and understand the need for lifelong learning, independent own experience of learning and training;
  • Have the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, ability to adapt to change, promote social cohesion;
  • The ability to have interaction and mediation, developed intercultural tolerance and intercultural experience;
  • Have an appropriate level of oral and written literacy mother and at least one foreign language (mostly English), to be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, present its findings in the form of reports, articles, essays, using modern means of presentation;
  • Have an entrepreneurial mindset and activities;
  • Have the values needed to live in a complex democratic society, be a responsible citizen, have the necessary social competence.

Master training at the University implemented the following programs:

  • Educational and professional - for future technological and design professional activity in the economy;
  • Education and research - for future research activities.

The amount of education and vocational training program is Master 90-120 ECTS credits, the amount of educational and scientific program - 120 ECTS credits. Educational and scientific master program must include research (scientific) component of no less than 30%.

For the most prepared students for further study focused on the third (education and research) level of higher education can be offered customized integrated program "Master" - "PhD".

Educational programs of the second (master's) level of higher education implemented in the departments that have highly skilled scientific and pedagogical staff, modern laboratory and research material base and carry out research work on current scientific and applied problems.

The recommended number of masters defined "quota" master training, which is determined by two components: the number of potential supervisors (teaching staff who have scientific degrees, academic titles) and scientific and pedagogical potential of the department. This should take into account the real possibilities of employment of graduates of magistracy, in particular, the estimated number of seats in postgraduate department, assistant job posts, the availability of applications for master's degrees from academic institutions and other potential customers.

The University can carry out targeted training masters for educational institutions, research institutions and national specialized academies, businesses, organizations, etc. in terms of involvement in the educational process of scientific and pedagogical staff and use their research and logistics base. Master training can be carried out on the basis of national research institutions and specialized academies under separate agreements between the university and these institutions.

Admission to the second study program (master) RVO university students who have successfully completed the baccalaureate training is conducted on a competitive basis according to the statements of students from admission to NTU "KPI" annually approved by the Academic Council of the University and published on a portal www.kpi.ua.

Educational process for persons enrolled in educational programs for masters, organized with the following features:

  • Study carried out by an individual curriculum;
  • To conduct individual training sessions can spend up to 15% of total training time provided for educational program;
  • Master's thesis, carried out the final stage of training should include research (creative development) on the problems of the industry;
  • Graduation examination board certification is carried out and conducted in the form of master thesis defense. The examination board must be submitted materials describing the scientific (creative) and practical value of the work done - published articles, methodological development and so on;
  • Having regard to scientific (artistic) achievements, Master can be recommended by the Academic Council of the Institute / Faculty and / or examination board to study in graduate school.

The main forms of educational work in the magistrates are:

  • Review, problem lectures;
  • Individual training sessions;
  • Scientific and educational seminars on specific topics, sections of courses and research conducted by students-undergraduates;
  • Independent work, including research on an approved topic and preparation of master thesis.

Reporting forms students graduate on the implementation of the curriculum are:

  • Exams and tests;
  • Report on scientific and educational seminars;
  • Preparation and protection of essays and reports on completed research.

Mandatory classroom hours students graduate on average for the entire study period should not exceed 15 hours per week. When planning Master training must focus on individual training sessions and independent work. In individual training sessions and CPC need to plan study time to 1/2 general subjects, 2/3 - for master's courses in the specialty (specialization). For the individual choice of subjects on the theme of research and programs for integrated "master" - "Ph.D." Self assimilation plan under the guidance of the supervisor.

Education master's program is conducted under the direction of supervisor under the individual plan and undergraduate student based on active independent work. Supervisor masters appointed professors (lecturers) who are actively scientific research, as well as the leading scientists in a particular area of expertise. List supervisors and master list of recommended topics discussed at the meetings of the research departments.

Topics of research graduate students should be formulated in such a way as to ensure purposeful formation of individual curriculum and his undergraduate work in specific research direction of the first semester of a Masters course.

Supervisor training master appointed director of the Institute / Dean of the submission of the head of department. Fixing masters for supervisors and approval of research topics carried out the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute / Faculty before 1 November of the first semester of the master study program training. In one supervisor assigned to no more than 5 students graduate at a time.

Supervisor once a semester at a meeting of reports on implementation of individual plan for each student, who is studying for a master's program. In the case of individual student plans for masters at the junction of branches of science permitted purpose except the supervisor, one or more consultants.

Supervisor undergraduate:

  • Participates in the selection of candidates to the magistracy, reviewed their scientific work;
  • Assists students in selecting topics of research and Master's thesis, drawing up individual educational plan;
  • Monitors the implementation schedule of the educational process and the curriculum of the student;
  • Promotes the organization of individual undergraduate classes;
  • Analyzes and controls the organization of independent work of undergraduate;
  • Organizes and manages the research work of undergraduate;
  • Manages the preparation of the master's thesis;
  • Promotes undergraduate general culture;
  • Promotes settling social problems and his undergraduate employment after graduation;
  • Provides feedback on his master's thesis and characterization professional and individual qualities (analytical, research, philosophical, etc.). Undergraduates.

University creates conditions for the implementation of a student, who is studying for a master's program, an individual plan in full, namely:

  • Provides students with the opportunity to publish scientific (research and teaching) items in the collections;
  • Promotes the publication of the best master's thesis as scientific monographs and other scientific and educational publications;
  • Allows students to use classrooms, research funds libraries, scientific equipment and facilities;
  • Provides access to information networks, including the Internet;
  • Promotes student participation in scientific and methodological conferences;
  • Organizing students for graduate courses at the choice of issues involving eminent scientists.
