Peter Rodionovich Rodin was born on June 17, 1922 in Kriuky village, Vladimir region, in a large forester’s family. His father was the only literate person in the village, owned a library, and his mother looked after the farm and took care of 8 children. In 1938, left the school with honors, P.R. Rodin entered the Moscow Aviation Institute of Technology (MAIT) for Faculty of Motorbuilding. He combined studying with his work at the plant. In 1945, Peter Rodionovich graduated with honors and enrolled in MAIT postgraduate course. In 1949, a young scientist defended his candidate's thesis and worked at the Odessa Polytechnic Institute until 1963. Firstly, he worked as a senior lecturer of Metal-cutting machines and tools department, then as an associate professor, head of the department, the dean of the Mechanical Department, and professor. Studies , conducted at that time, formed the basis of his doctoral thesis, which he defended in 1961.
Since 1963 up to 1978 P.R. Rodin worked as the chief of the Scientific research Department and as a member of the USSR Ministry of Higher Education Board. At the same time, he has an outside employment, working in the KPI as the head of the Manufacturing Engineering Department and as a Professor of this Department. In 1969 he founded Tool Manufacturing Department and became the first head of it. In 1976 P.R. Rodin was elected as a USSR Academy of Science corresponding member. In 1978, scientist chose a permanent job in the KPI, where he worked as the head of the Tool Manufacturing Department until 1991. For many years Peter Rodionovich was at head of the council Specialised for doctoral theses in KPI. He prepared 39 candidates and seven Doctors of Science. Peter Rodionovich published 40 books and monographs, many of which are translated into foreign languages.
Peter Rodionovich Rodin – is a double winner of the USSR State Prize (1979, 1991), Honoured Ukrainian Higher School Worker (1972), Honoured Professor of KPI (1998), Honoured Doctor of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, Honoured Professor of Zhytomyr Institute of Technology. He was awarded with the Order of Red Banner of Labour (1976), two Orders of Honour (1961, 1971), Order of Friendship of Peoples (1982), Order of Merit of III degree (1998), and six medals.
During his career P.R. Rodin was elected and appointed in the Ukrainian and the Soviet Union leading scientific and public organisations, in particular, the Committee on the State Prize in Science and Technology, he was a member of the USSR HAC (Higher Attestation Committee) Expert Council of Engineering (1984-1991), Chairman of the Ukrainian HAC Expert Council of Engineering (1998-2001). He was a member of the Ukrainian mission in 5 UNESCO General Conferences (1976-1985).
His warmth, love and knowledge Peter Rodionovich devoted to his family, friends, students and colleagues. He was a loving and caring husband and father: his wife raised two children - technical science candidates - Tatiana and Rodion, and grandchildren Olga, Natalia, Olexii. A happy memory of Peter Rodionovich Rodin is kept in the hearts of his family, relatives, friends, students and colleagues.
