Meeting with Prof. Tetsuya Ishikawa

On January 23, 2013 prof. Tetsuya Ishikawa (Japan), Director of “SPring-8", the accelerator complex which is a source of synchrotron radiation of the third generation with the world's highest energy of 8 GeV, visited NTUU “KPI”. He was accompanied by Mr. Keiichi Sasaki, the second secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, and Mr. Osamu Mizutani, Director of the Ukraine - Japan Center NTUU “KPI”. Prof. Ishikawa got acquainted with historic campus of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the exhibition of the Department of Aviation and Astronautics of the State Polytechnic Museum of NTUU “KPI” and took part in the meeting with scientists of NTUU “KPI” on «New Horizons in Research and Cooperation».

The meeting was opened by Yurii Yakymenko, Academician of NAS of Ukraine, First Vice-rector of NTUU "KPI", and Serhii Sidorenko, Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine, Vice-rector in charge of NTUU “KPI” international relations, and was devoted to information on research which are carrying out in “SPring-8". Taking into account that works carrying out in “SPring-8" include solid-state physics, nanotechnology, biotechnology and new materials as well, Prof. Ishikawa proposed to establish cooperation between his Centre “SPring-8" and KPI.

Japanese guests got acquainted with equipment and activity of Center “Nanoelectronics and Nanotechnology”, “Ukrainian-Japanese Rapid Microscopy Teaching Laboratory” of NTUU “KPI” and "Tokyo Boeki Technology Ltd" as well as Educational Scientific Center of X-ray Analysis NTUU "KPI" – "RIGAKU". Such tools will allow university researchers to simplify joining the works that are realized in "SPring-8".

At the end of the meeting, participants discussed the cooperation strategy.
