Watching the news on the university telegram channel "Rectorate'' is now a habit for most polytechnicians. Almost every day there is information signed by the university Civil Defense Headquarters Director Yuri Nesterenko.

On the first day of the war the headquarters became one of the main divisions of the university. It was at dawn on February 24 that students of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute went down to the shelter for the first time on an alarm signal that turned out to be non-educational. "Fortunately, we had been doing some work before that, although, to tell the truth, we did not expect our neighbor to strike not only at military facilities and critical infrastructure, but also at civilian buildings and structures,- the headquarters director Yuri Nesterenko says.- Our students were somewhat ready to respond appropriately to the danger from the air, so we began to use shelters on the very first day of the war."

The headquarters informs not only about the alarms, but also about other dangers posed by the war. For example, how to act during missile strikes and in other dangerous situations. Such a message, by the way, was the first to be posted on Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute telegram channel "Rectorate" on behalf of the Civil Defense Headquarters. The message was duplicated on their resources by other departments of the university. It explained how to act in such situations, what can be done and what is absolutely forbidden.

Of course, the Headquarters tells about many more important things. "Mining has become a serious problem now,-  Yuri Nesterenko says.- Especially for those cities and villages from which the enemy was driven out. Rushists left behind mined streets, squares, playgrounds, public buildings, houses, cars and more. Trip wires happen most often. But residents of Kyiv should also be mindful of the danger. After all, enemies use remote mining. It is uncontrolled and poses a danger primarily to civilians.  Children, who are interested in all unfamiliar things, are the most vulnerable to this . The aggressor knows this and often disguises mines as toys and other attractive things. Therefore, we constantly appeal to parents and children themselves to exercise unceasing vigilance. So, children should not be left without adult supervision even for a second, and parents have to constantly remind them that they must not touch any incomprehensible things or toys thrown by someone. In addition to text messages that are posted on the university's Internet resources, we provide visual aids with images of samples of such mines and similar dangerous objects. It should be noted that such materials are also provided by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), where they are prepared by highly qualified specialists. So you can find them on other social networks." It should be added that recently the enemy has begun to use delayed-action mines, which do not work immediately, but only when they are hit by a person or triggered by another factor of movement. Therefore, in case of detection of suspicious objects, you should not approach them, pick them up, especially kick them, and even use electronic devices, including mobile phones next to them. You should go to a safe distance and report the finding of the rescue service by calling 101 or 102, and warn others of the possible danger.

Information on how to avoid coming under fire during hostilities is updated from time to time. "We explain again and again what to do if you find yourself in a place where the battle is taking place; how to behave; where to turn to if you witnessed such events. Such materials from the SESU - both concise and more extensive - are also widely distributed through networks now, and they should be paid attention to, "- the headquarters director says.

Another issue that is constantly in the focus of the Civil Defense Headquarters is the unacceptability of disseminating redundant information. This is about pictures, information and comments on the movement of our troops and mass gatherings. For example, such information led to tragic consequences in Mariupol. "That's how it was," - the headquarters director Yuri Nesterenko says.- One of our citizens, who managed to escape from the siege, describing the situation in the city on one of the popular TV channels, said that a lot of people were constantly hiding in the drama theater. And that very night the theater came under ruthless bombing. It has resulted in numerous fatal casualties, the exact number of which is still unknown. That is, before you write or say something to someone, you need to think about what to say and what to leave to silence, and think about whether your, even very high-impact information will lead to irreparable consequences and casualties. Of course, the people who disseminate this information in one way or another, from  journalists and interviewers to Internet users with their reposts, also need to analyze what they are throwing into the information space. "

According to Yuri Nesterenko, the announcement, especially immediate, of the consequences of a plane or cruise missile shot down by our Air Defense forces is also dangerous. This has been said many times, but the unacceptability of such things must be highlighted again and again. The director reminds that the trajectory of the means of destruction, i.e. the starting position of air defense installations, can be determined at the place where the fragments fell. And as soon as such visual information appears in public, the enemy can determine and calculate its location and destroy it. The same is with seemingly spectacular photos of the columns of our defenders and their positions on public pages of social networks, which in fact are interesting primarily for the enemy . "Someone is taking a good selfie, and it leads to destruction and human casualties. A clear evidence of this is a powerful rocket attack on the Retroville shopping mall in Kyiv, which killed at least 8 civilians on March 21. And all because of a kind of "tick-tocker" (wide from being a child), who posted a video with the location of Ukrainian troops near the shopping mall. This man became an adjuster for the enemy. If he did that consciously or unconsciously is the subject matter of the investigation, but nobody is able to bring people back to life, and destroyed buildings, and goods worth millions of hryvnias," - Yuriy Nesterenko emphasizes.

The information provided daily by the university's Civil Defense Headquarters on the telegram channel "Rectorate" is by no means superfluous. "The enemy is changing the way the war is waged, and then you need to understand how to act in a new situation, what measures to take, and how to defend yourself," the director says. Therefore, the reports of the Headquarters will remain relevant until Ukraine's victory in this war.
