On March 19 and 20, the first chess championship of the faculty and staff of the capital's universities was held in the smart shelter of the University's Scientific and Technical Library. The organizers of the chess tournament were the Kyiv City Branch of the Committee on Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Kyiv Chess Federation and the main judging panel of the competition. 

The smart shelter proved to be very convenient for such events: plenty of space, good lighting, ventilation, a food area, communication opportunities, etc. In fact, it was built not only as a shelter during air raids, but also as a space for various events and activities, which is very important in the context of Russian aggression. 

The tournament began with team rapid chess competitions, which included teams from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, National University of Life and Environmental Sciences (NUBiP), National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine (NA SBU), National Transport University (NTU), Taurida National University named after V.I. Vernadsky (TNU), and the University of the South Caucasus (UTS). V.I. Vernadsky Taurida National University (TNU), European University (EU), Kyiv University of Construction and Architecture (KNUBA), State University of Information and Communication Technologies (SUCIT). The best result was achieved by the KPI team, the second place was taken by chess players from NUBiP, and the third prize went to the team of the National Security Service of Ukraine. 

In the individual competitions that took place on the second day, Vira Shpota, a specialist of the KPI library, won the first place in the blitz program in the category "Women". Volodymyr Kuzmenko from the National Security Service of Ukraine won in the Rectors (Presidents), Vice-Rectors category. The winner in the category "Professors and Doctors of Sciences" is Yuriy Pepa from the State University of Information Technologies and Communications. The winner in the category "Associate Professors and Candidates of Sciences" is Serhii Stavroiani from KNUBA. Ivan Zakharchuk from NUBiP became the first in the category "Other employees and staff". By the way, chess players from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute won two second places - Professor Volodymyr Kabanyachyi from the Institute of IAT in the category "Professors and Doctors of Sciences" and Associate Professor of the Institute of ITS Andrii Astrakhantsev in the category "Associate Professors and Candidates of Sciences".

In the overall standings, NUBiP took first place, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute chess players were second, and the SSU was third.

The head of the Kyiv branch of the KFYS of the Ministry of Education and Science presented a letter of gratitude to the rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Mykhailo Zgurovsky for his significant personal contribution to the development of chess among students and faculty of the Kyiv university.

The first chess championship among the employees of the capital's higher education institutions was held in the CLUST SPACE smartcity.

Among the eight university teams, our polytechnics won the championship in both individual and team competitions.
