Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has broad international ties, in particular with the South African Republic. Oddly enough, rugby is one of the promising directions for the development of relations between Kyiv Polytechnic and South African universities and enterprises. Rugby in South Africa is a national sport. Oval ball is played with in kindergartens, schools, colleges, universities. The national team is one of the strongest on the planet and the World Cup winner.
On May, 25-26, the South African Embassy in Ukraine hosted the International Youth Tournament “Amber South Africa Cup in Ukraine on Rugby” in Kyiv. A team of young men under the age of 13 years, a rugby club “Polytechnic” of our university, was invited to this representative competitions.
Under the direction of the teacher of the sports development department, the candidate of pedagogical sciences Oleksandr Sergiyovych Sabirov and the director of the club, the master of sports of Ukraine Anatoliy Grigoroviyh Kozenko Rugby-Polytechnic won the honorable second place.
Ambassador of South Africa to Ukraine Christian Basson presented the captain of team with the Cup, silver medals and diplomas. And the team's rugby players, Ilya Polonsky and Maxim Avramenko, were recognized as the best players in the tournament and were awarded with special prizes from the embassy.
It's nice that even young rugby sportsmen make efforts and confirm that Igor Sikorsky KPI is a leader not only in education and science, but also in sports.
