October 18, 2014 professor of the Department of Microelectronics the Faculty of Electronics NTUU"KPI" Doctor of science Yuri Mikhailovich Poplavko celebrated his 80th anniversary.

Yu.M.Poplavko - a graduate of the KPI in 1957 After graduation, he stayed here to work as an engineer. He then worked as assistant, associate, and since 1976 - as a professor. In 1963 Yu.M.Poplavko defended  his thesis for the degree of candidate of technical sciences, and in 1974 - a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Yu.M.Poplavko  is the renowned expert on the physics of ferroelectrics and dielectrics. He started the new research method - microwave dielectric spectroscopy. He has a number of important developments, more than 300 scientific publications, 15 inventions in the field of application of microwave dielectrics.

During his time at the institute Yu.M.Poplavko was distinguished not only as a talented scientist, but also as a brilliant teacher and methodologist. He has developed several courses in material science and physical areas and provide them with methodological literature publishing 16 textbooks, including three - in national publications. For the textbook "Physics of Dielectrics" (Kiev, High School, 1980, 400 pp.) Yuri Mikhailovich was awarded a diploma KPI. For his 4-volume textbook "Physical Materials" he and co-authors were awarded prizes and diplomas KPI in 2013. Ten years Yu.M.Poplavko worked in the methodical council KPI  as a head of the section "Active learning students," published a series of methodical works.

Prof. Yu.M.Poplavko is reading courses at the Faculty of Electronics: "Solid State Physics", "Physics of dielectrics" and "Magneto electronics." With his participation Department has prepared more than 3,000 engineers of electronics technology. Under his supervision graduate 28 students (some of whom later became Doctors of Sciences and academician of NAS of Ukraine) prepared and defended their theses.

Prof. Yu.M.Poplavko was a member of the expert council of HAC of Ukraine. He was an opponent more than to 30 candidates and 20 doctoral theses. Yuri Mikhailovich conducted international activities as head of the Central Ukrainian section of the International Institute of Engineers of electrical and electronic engineering (IEEE). He led a joint Ukrainian-Korean  Project Ukraine-US CRDF program and research projects with France. At the invitation of foreign universities and firms Yu.M.Poplavko presented papers and lectures: in the United States (6 times), Germany (5 times), England (2 times), France (4 times), South Korea (8 times), Japan Italy, Spain, Portugal and other countries.
