In September, an annual competition in testing of information systems security and Internet Intelligence "Layered defense – 2013" was held which is conducted by training center "Eshalon" within the International exhibition Infosecurity Russia 2013. Again student of the Institute of Physics and Technology NTUU «KPI» became the winner.

Students, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates took part in the competition from even more than 150 higher educational institutions of Russia, the CIS and MS, in which the preparation of specialists in the field of information and data security is carried out. The awardees are:

1) Konstantin Ilyin, the student of the Institute of Physics and Technology of NTUU “KPI”

2) Victor Alyushyn, the student of the National Research Nuclear University (MEPhI / NRNU MEPhI, NIYaU MEPhI orMEPhI);

3) Eugene Matsuev,the student of Russian Voronezh MIA Institute

The participants had two independent tasks.
1) To test the security of IT- infrastructure which imitates management network. As a result of the held testing every bidder had to present a report describing the identified security vulnerabilities and how to remove them.

2) Internet scout, which means the identification of blogger, determination of location where the photograph was taken, detection of hidden communications (steganography) and decoding of encrypted message.

The contestants were given a special version of the security testing set «Scanner - ВС» (НВО «Eshalon» development) for testing security.

In making an assessment of competitive tasks implementation, a special focus was on the fullness of completed tasks ( number of vulnerabilities, performing all tasks of internet scout) and also testing performance standards (ethic hacking) shown by contestants.

It is worth noting that students of the Institute of Physics and Technology of NTUU «KPI» demonstrated their preparation at an extremely high level not for the first time: Konstantin Ilyin who headed the list this year, won the competition before in 2011.
