Temporary regulations on the organization of educational process in the NTUU "KPI": 7.5. Control of learning outcomes

Control measures are a necessary element of Education Quality Assurance. They determine the accordance of the students acquired knowledge and skills, competence existing regulatory requirements for higher education and ensure the timely adjustment of the educational process.

The main task of monitoring of the educational process - to obtain information about its properties and the results for effective process control and optimization, to achieve high quality of student learning. Thus, the main function of the educational process control - diagnostic-corrective.

In addition, the control tasks can be:

  • Determining the success of training students for planning the next stages of the learning process;
  • Identifying gaps in teaching individual students for optimization the process of individual learning and motivation of students;
  • Semester control, that determine the degree of mastering of learning content for the purpose of transfer to the next cycle of learning;
  • Graduation certification of students, is establishing actual conformity of training the student with the standards of higher education, awarding students with the appropriate degree of higher education and qualification and issue the relevant certificate.

In all above listed cases implemented by controlling and diagnostic-corrective functions.

In control of the educational process can be carried out other functions: educational, motivational and stimulating, organizing and education and so on.

Training control function consists in intensify work students in mastering of educational material, encouraging repetition and systematization of educational material, in-depth study and improvement of training. This feature promotes self control, activating activity of each student, provides fixing poorly assimilated material.

The educational function involves the formation of volitional, moral and other positive personality traits: ability to work responsibly and focused use techniques of self-control, activity and tidiness etc. The very existence of systems for monitoring disciplines, organizes and directs the activities of students. This is achieved through systematic work to identify strengths and weaknesses in a student's development, identify gaps in their knowledge and fastest elimination. Main role is given to the formation of students' creative attitude to the occupation, their active desire to learn from powerful force, develop their abilities.

Organizing function ensures sustainability and systematic training of students, activates their independent work. Organizing function begins to act well before the final control from the beginning of learning when the scientific staff provides installation and makes demands that will be placed at one or another form of control.

Motivational and stimulating function increases the desire of students to improve their learning outcomes, marks on discipline, promotes competitiveness in education.

In the educational process, the following types of control: incoming, current, landmark, final control and preservation of knowledge.

Incoming control carried out at the beginning of learning with a new discipline to determine students' readiness for learning. Control is performed using diagnostic tools disciplines, providing a new discipline.

Results are analyzed at departmental control (interdepartmental) meetings together with the scientific and pedagogical staff who conducted the lessons from the previous academic discipline. As a result of incoming control measures are developed to provide individual assistance to students, adjustment of teaching process and so on.

Always rector incoming quality control of residual knowledge is carried out in Mathematics and Physics among the first-year students of university. Such control is an objective and independent detection of residues school students' knowledge in order to develop strategies Academic departments of the University of freshmen. Results of rector incoming control is transferred to the Department of the University for the corresponding adjustment of the educational process.

Current control is performed scientific and pedagogical staff in all kinds of classes. The main objective of the current control - check the level of training students to perform specific work in class. The main objective of the current control - providing feedback between scientific and teaching staff and students in the learning process, providing management training motivated students. Information received in the current control, used as a research and teaching work - to adjust the methods and means of teaching and students - planning for independent work.

Current control can be carried out in the form of oral questioning, written or computer control testing on practical and lectures, performances of students in discussions at seminars and colloquia in the form, the results of which the student is allowed (or not allowed) to the laboratory work (computer workshop).

The form of the current control and evaluation criteria defined in the work program and the CM rating system evaluating learning outcomes.

Recommendations for developing of rating systems of evaluation provided in the Regulation on the rating system of evaluation of learning outcomes of students.

Recommendations for the development of diagnostic study results provided in the Regulation on of certification students and semester control.

Landmark (module, theme, calendar) control - it control of knowledge of students after studying logically completed part of the work program credit module. This control can be modular (thematic) or calendar and take place in the form of tests, testing the individual semester assignments and others. Landmark calendar control (interim certification) necessarily held twice per semester Bachelor training programs and master's training program - to address the scientific councils of institutes / departments. Interim certification can be made on the basis of current ranking students.

The form of Landmark (module, theme or calendar) monitoring and evaluation criteria defined in the work program and the CM rating system evaluation learning outcomes.

Control preservation of knowledge is carried out of some time after the study subjects. This type of control does not affect the performance (evaluation) and the student's training is conducted selectively, as a rule, in the interests of external quality control studies or internal, to study the sustainability of learning students. An example of this type of control is Rector control.

Final control assesses the learning outcomes of students at the intermediate or final stages of their training for a specific RVO. It includes control semester and final certification of students.

Semester credit control module is carried according to the curriculum in the form of semester examination, differential test or test in the terms established schedule of educational process and the amount of training material specified in the work program the CM. Form of semester control (oral, written, combined, test, etc), content and structure of the examination tickets (control tasks) and assessment criteria are determined by the decision of the department.

The examination - a kind of final control results of mastering theoretical and practical material (knowledge and skills) with credit module per semester, which is held during the examinations.

Test (differentiation test) - a type of semester control, where mastering of academic material credit module is assessed on the basis of the current control (testing, current surveys, individual tasks and certain types of work on the practical, seminar or laboratory work / computer workshops) during the semester. Semester test scheduled without exam.

Final attestation  - is establish compliance applicants acquired higher education level and scope of knowledge, skills and other competencies requirements of higher education. Final certification is carried Examining Board of openness and transparency.

Higher education institution by the decision of Examination Commission awards the person who successfully completed an educational program at a certain level of higher education, an appropriate degree of higher education and assigns appropriate qualifications.

Normative form of final certification (protection degree project / work master's thesis and / or examinations) are defined by the curriculum in accordance with the relevant standards of higher education.

The level of control are distinguished: self-control, cathedral, faculty, rectorial and ministerial.

Self-control is designed for self-assessment of students as learning a specific discipline (section themes). For this purpose, textbooks for each topic (section) and in the the methodological recommendations (guidelines) for laboratory work (computer workshops) are provided for self-control issues. Greater efficiency is ensured by special programs of self-control and self-esteem, which are components of the automated training courses.

Catedral control is carried out to assess the level of training of students of the course at different stages of the study and takes the form of incoming, current, landmark and semester control.

Faculty, rectorial and ministerial control are different levels of external control intended to verify the quality of the educational process at the department, comparing the effectiveness of student learning.

The external control of all levels, in contrast to the cathedral, conducted selectively (in some academic groups), only in writing and usually have control of the preservation of knowledge.
