Everyone is expecting a miracle and gifts on the New Year and Christmas holidays. Pupils of the Department of Chemistry and Biology of the Municipal extracurricular school «Kyiv Youth Academy of Sciences» got a gift of a visit to the fascinating State Museum of Science. At the end of December 2020, the Faculty of Chemical Technology of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry and Biology of the Kyiv Youth Academy of Sciences, organized an excursion to attract gifted and talented children to scientific and technical creativity.

The State Museum of Science opened in the fall in pavilion № 23 “Science” of the National Complex “Expocenter of Ukraine”. It is the first state museum where it is forbidden not to touch the exhibits. There are areas “Strange Matter”, “Acoustics”, “Optics”, “Man”, “Great Inventions” and 120 interactive exhibits developed by teams from Canada, USA, Poland, Sweden, Great Britain, and Ukraine. At the museum, you can walk freely and get acquainted with the most important scientific discoveries and inventions. One can observe various physical phenomena, study the structure of living organisms.

The pupils operated a robotic arm, got inside a giant shell, and went into a mirror tunnel with an optical illusion. Young scientists also tried to break the tempered glass with a bowling ball. They managed to “see” their voice and the frequency of sound. They heard the voice through acoustic mirrors. Also, the pupils saw a body structure in detail. They held in their hands a model of the brain and human organs. Of course, everybody enjoyed riding a tricycle with square wheels. By the way, such bicycles today are available in only four cities around the world: Kyiv, New York, Singapore, and Rio de Janeiro.

The pupils will never forget visiting the State Museum of Science. We hope that the exhibit has ignited their interest in research work. One day perhaps, some of the results of their experiments will turn into great inventions!
