The parties agreed to carry out joint predictive research. They already have developed 16 joint projects, yet an official cooperation agreement has been signed today.

Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Mykhailo Zgurovskyi stressed the importance of this step:

‘Our friendly partnership with Lev Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases becomes formalized. We have been working on joint research since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. We have combined efforts of epidemiologists, experts in medicine and mathematics, computing specialists. We have brought together extremely different knowledge, but, combining, we get new results, a new vision in our analyses and predictions. When we realized that we were one team, we decided to seal a pact of friendship and cooperation agreement.’

Scientists use the platform “World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development” to carry out predicitive research. The center was established in 2006. There are only half a hundred such centers in the world, and one of them is in Ukraine. It works through the URAN network (Ukrainian Research and Academic Network), which is part of the European network. Thus, it makes possible receive all the accumulated data in any other center and share your data. Moreover, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Lev Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases will be able to operate with powerful means of data to promote research.

Victoriia Zadorozhna - Director of the State Institution “L.V. Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases of NAMS of Ukraine”, said:

‘We are very grateful to Mikhail Zgurovsky for involving us in this important work. As epidemiologists, we can also predict certain events at our level. However, combining our skills with modern computing methods will ensure really promising results’.

Using numerous means and a wide collection of global and regional data of the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development will contribute to a more adequate vision of the epidemic consequences and a more rational decision making for issues of society and economy development.
‘Our best practices developed for the National Academy of Medical Sciences in the field of artificial intelligence, big data mining, systems analytics and the means we have developed together with the international community (in addition, our participation in the international environment as a global data center generally gives benefits for the Ministry of Education and Science) can be used for government purposes. And that's the thing about the agreement we have signed today,’ Mykhailo Zgurovsky stressed.

President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine Vitalii Tsymbaliuk stressed in his turn:
‘It is a great honor for the National Academy of Medical Sciences to deal with you and sign the agreement. I am fascinated by the contribution you have made to the development of our state and the world’.

Currently, the parties are collaborating in drafting of an analytical situational information center. Its main purpose is to find patterns - and not only related to the epidemic - using big data, artificial intelligence methods and intellectual analysis. It allows you to construct development scenarios for future events and model them. Such means will help, in particular, politicians and economists make the right decisions in a timely manner.
