Professor Vladimir Vasilyevich Khilchevsky celebrates his 90th birthday. All his labor activity is connected with our university. Returning from the war and going through long medical treatment he was enrolled in 1946 in Mechanical Faculty of KPI (specialty “Automobiles and tractors”). He studied brilliantly and had got the honor diploma. Then he was the postgraduate. In 1954 he defended ahead of the schedule his candidate’s dissertation. In 1970 he defended his doctor’s dissertation. It was done under leadership of the future academician with world known name G.S.Pisarenko. The sphere of his scientific research – the exploration of the power dissipation under complex oscillations of the systems and development of new technologies. For two years V.V.Khilchevsky headed the department strength of materials (1960-1962), and for eighteen years – the department of material science and technology of structural materials (1973-1991). In addition, more than thirty years he headed the preparatory department, spent a lot of efforts to organize the KPI branches in Chernigov and Zhytomyr. Vladimir Vasilyevich is the academician of the Academy of Engineering Sciences, he authored more than 250 scientific papers, including 5 monographs, 3 manuals, popular science books and the editor Russian-Ukrainian dictionary on machinery. His activity was awarded by state prizes “Honored educational worker of UkSSR”, “Honored Professor of NTUU “KPI” and others. KPI keeps close ties with Vladimir Vasilyevich Khilchevsky.
