Vasily Petrovich Izhevsk (04 [16] .06.1863, Ryazan - 23.10.1926, Kyiv) - Professor of Metallurgy Department, organizer of the steel industry specialty and Metallurgy Department of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (1903). In Kiev Polytechnic Institute, he worked from 1889 to 1926. He became professor in 1912.

His main works were devoted to the blast furnace. He developed methodology for calculating material and heat balance of the blast furnace, worked in the field of electrometallurgy. He developed several designs of electric furnaces (1901-1907), proposed steel heating before quenching in salt bath, developed a gas generator of original design (1919-1923). He proposed special chemicals for detecting iron alloy microstructure.

There were among his pupils outstanding scientists and engineers, including vice president of the Academy of Sciences of USSR V.P. Bardeen, Professors N.P. Chizhevsky and V.E. Vasiliev.

Major works: "Electrometallurgy of steel and iron" (1904), "Getting granular pearlite in steel annealing in vacuum electric furnace" (1910), "System of domain balance calculation" (1912), "Heater or internal combustion retort" (1921) .
