Rating of the university departments – 2013

In order to determine the results of the main activities of the departments of the University for the second year in a row a training department of "KPI" conducted the ranking of university departments according to the methodology approved by Methodical Council of "KPI".

The main components in the ranking were the following areas of the department: training of specialists (A1), academic potential (A2), research and innovation activities (A3), and international activities (A4), each component is a part of the overall ranking with its weight coefficient (A1 - 0.4, A2 - 0.25, A3 - 0.25, A4 - 0.1).

For the determination of A1component they used the results of state certification of principal control and external evaluation of the quality of training; A2 – is the ranking of scientific-pedagogical staff (PNP) and the Department of human potential; A3 – is the scientific activity, the effectiveness of scientific research and the training of scientific personnel department; A4 – is international academic mobility and activity of the department. In general, to determine the overall ranking it is used 44 indicators of the department that have been submitted to the teaching department of the University Admission Committee, Department for Education, Institute of Education Quality Monitoring, and AIS "Rating POP", the Department of Science and Innovation, Department of International Cooperation, SIC Applied Sociology "SocioPlus", personnel department and archives.

With a view to drawing up a single ranking of departments (training engineers and non-training) the decision of Methodological Council of "KPI" from the 27th of March 2014 adopted to set for non-training departments the average value component A1 (training of specialists). Thus, the ranking of the university units in 2013 was conducted for all 130 university departments, 17 of which are non-training.

Among the departments that since last year have made significant progress, FMM departments  should be mentioned: International Economics, Economics and Business and Management and the Department PSF and the Department of Applied Physics PTI. For the second year in a row ranking leaders are the Department of Physics of Metals IFB, chemical, silicate and polymer Engineering department, Department of Telecommunications (ITS). But even giving the average meaning for the most important component A1 (training specialists) did not affect the outsider position of non-training departments.

For the purpose of transparency of rating methodologies and possible improvement of rating they have plans to issue a newsletter detailing the methodology and analysis of results of ranking in 2013.
