The implementation of the principles of sustainable development of energy for successful economic development of the state and the increase of its competitiveness require a modern level of education for professionals of this branch. With the aim of internationalization, modernization and improvement of the quality of the educational process in accordance with the Bologna process and provision of current knowledge transfer in the sphere of sustainable energy since 2011 at the Technical University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" has been functioning an international educational project "Ukrainian - Norwegian cooperation in higher education for sustainable development of energy "(CPEA-2010/10050). This project is a part of the programme "Eurasia" of Norwegian Centre of International Cooperation in Higher Education. The main project partners from Ukraine are Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management of NTUU "KPI", from Norway - Engineering department (Telemark University College) in Porsgrunn. The purpose of the project is not just the exchange of students and graduate students, but also the improvement of education in the field of sustainable development of energy by means of introduction of successful research and practical experience of Norway in the sphere of energy efficiency, renewable sources of energy and modelling of sustainable energy systems into the educational process.

In 2011-2013 for the project Ukrainian and Norwegian teachers were prepared due to the common efforts, and this academic year the implementation of the pilot course "Modelling and computer programming of sustainable energy systems" has been started at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management. On September 23 the first series of lectures and workshops on "Modelling of Sustainable Energy Systems" took place. Classes for Ukrainian and foreign students were given at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management by prof. Bernt Lee, invited from the University of Telemark to teach the theory and practice of modelling of sustainable energy systems and creation of multilevel models in the sphere of software "OpenModelica".

During the classes students have acquired knowledge and skills in computer programming and modelling of complex tasks in different areas of energy efficiency and synchronization of operational modes using energy efficient processes and technologies of renewable energy sources in the total infrastructure of production systems and processes. Particular interesting for students were examples of practical implementation of "OpenModelica" in Norway. So Master L. Rubino, who came this year to study at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management from Torino (Italy), stressed on the importance of spreading this information in his home university and decided to use multilevel models in the environment of "OpenModelica" to carry out the tasks of his master's thesis. Prof. Bernt Lee also expressed his positive opinion about cooperation with students from Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management.

The final part of the course on "Modelling of Sustainable Energy Systems" in the frames of the project "Ukrainian - Norwegian cooperation in higher education for sustainable development of energy" will be presented by prof. Bernt Lee at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management in December 2013. So students with a modern vision of sustainable energy development in Ukraine are welcome!

S.P. Denysyuk, the director of Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, prof., doctor of technical sciences., the head of electricity supply department, H. Strelkova, Project Coordinator, Ph.D., Associate professor of the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management.
