It is difficult to imagine the campus of the NTUU “KPI” without its fussy town from which in the morning a large number of students go out in order to disperse in the academic buildings, and in the evening return to their halls of residence. During the years of study, rooms have got the “home” look thanks to the work of their residents. But overall life sustenance and public welfare are supported by the administration of the university campus and the university itself.
Every year the campus hosts several thousand new residents, helps them adapt and join the team of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Settlement traditionally begins on August 26. It is preceded by the important stage - preparation for the new academic year: repair works in the halls of residence. This summer, thanks to contractors and student construction brigades, cosmetic repairs of rooms and blocks, corridors and halls, kitchens, public facilities were performed in residence halls. The total expenditure amounted to 2.4 million hryvnias. 17 student construction brigades, that are equal to almost 240 students took part in this work.
In the family hall of residence № 22 a nursery was opened, now kids can play and grow under the diligent care of experts, while parents are in the university. A number of measures were taken to optimize the payment process for living in a hall of residence: an additional cashier’s window has been opened; an electronic on-line payment system has been introduced. Moreover the interiors have been upgraded: new soft (0.4 million) and hard (1.5 million) equipment has been bought.
Placing students in residence halls is a difficult and tedious matter, as it is difficult to meet the needs of young people who have just left home conditions and are starting an independent adult life. Support during the organization of settlements was given by chairs and commandants, social workers of the residence halls; the representatives of student councils helped with paperwork. Operation services efficiently solved everyday problems.
Because of the difficult situation with the settlement, additional places for settlements of 1st year students were prepared in residence halls and preventive clinic. Together with university services the first-year students were settled in residence halls during 5 days. It''s almost a record as campus has taken in about 3,000 new residents this year. Altogether, 12,698 undergraduates and post-graduates live on the territory of the student campus.
In the residence halls there has been an increase in the number of self-service laundry rooms. Within the campus 9 containers for separate refuse collection have been set. An improvement and landscape gardening have been performed on the premises of residence halls. Together with the campus administration and students our town is becoming better and more comfortable!
The settlement has almost completed, the campus has started its everyday life. In the new year it was planned to hold many activities for youth’s development and improvement. Interesting leisure, full of new impressions seasoned with the flavour of achievements and victories, is waiting for students. Traditionally, exciting contests, such as “Labyrinth”, “Relay race of health”, various sports and cultural activities, environmental actions, social projects are waiting for the polytechnic students. We are optimistic about the future and we look forward to new ideas from the new generation of students!
