Delegation of Samsung Company R&D paid a visit to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on the 21-st of November 2019. The Delegation consisted of the following persons namely Vice-President of Samsung Electronics, General Director of Research Institute of Samsung in Ukraine abbreviated as SRK Sangwook Kwon, Deputy of SRK General Director Jongeun Won, R&D Director of SRK Andriy Fisunenko, Deputy of SRK General Director Sehun Shim and Chairperson of X&D SRK Oleksandr Striamets.
The Delegation from Samsung R&D was met by the following representatives of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute namely by Yuriy Yakymenko who is a Member of the Academy of Science in Ukraine, Serhiy Sydorenko who is a Pro-Rector in charge of international cooperation and Associate Member of the Academy of Science in Ukraine, Oleksiy Novikov who is a Pro-Rector of prospective development, Tetiana Lytvynova who is a managing Director of Physical and Technical Institute of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and others.
After presentations the representatives of Samsung R&D and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute discussed and negotiated the issues of dual education program and engagement of KPI students to dual learning program. Therefore, the representatives of Samsung R&D and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute discussed plans of further cooperation and exchanged memorandums that specified further learning mode and areas of joint cooperation.
It should be noted that dual education envisages and provides integration of traditional learning programs with work at companies and enterprises. Thus, due to the following cooperation the companies can order and recruit proper specialists and educational establishments provide opportunities to acquire necessary knowledge and skills. Alongside, the students are able to obtain education and work experience. Furthermore, the enterprises pay for preparation of proper specialists and even pay salaries to students.
It should be mentioned that cooperation between Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has been working for 10 years. During these years 2 joint Laboratories have been set up, 1 smart class has been properly equipped and 5 Institute Departments have been involved in this process. More than 150 students have passed internship in Samsung R&D Institute Ukraine. Furthermore, more than 220 graduates are working in SRK Samsung Ukraine and this makes 40 % of the overall number of colleagues. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd provides students with educational internship, research projects and students regularly interact with colleagues.
System of dual education has marked a new stage of cooperation between Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Samsung Research Institute Ukraine. The forerunner of partnership has been Physical and Technical Institute the so-called physical-technical dual system that has worked out the expertise of dual educational system since 1995. This system specifies cooperation of Physical and Technical Institute (PTI) with research establishments of National Academy of Science and Education of Ukraine. Therefore, the implementation of dual education with SRK, considering the expertise of PTI has become absolutely logical. The pilot project has started this year with specialization subjects “Cyber Security” and “Applied Mathematics” 5 Persons have already been registered. Testing process in SRK has been prolonged till December 2018 for students of PTI who have agreed to take up dual education. Thus, memorandums between representatives of Samsung R&D and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute introduce certain standards, solve organizational issues and establish rights, obligations and responsibilities of the Parties.
Next step that SRK and KPI are facing is to implement dual educational system in relation to Informatics and Computing Technics Department with Application System Analysis Institute.
