Chemical engineering in Ukraine is a multidisciplinary industry that has gained momentum in the last hundred years. The petrochemical and gas industry constantly needs modern devices, machines, complex technological lines, other equipment and especially specialists for the creation and maintenance of this instruments – specialists in chemical engineering. They are, in particular, trained at the Department of Machines and Equipment of Chemical and Petroleum Industries (MECPI) at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

The scientific school of the department dealing with heat and mass transfer processes has existed since 1928, today it is headed by Professor Yaroslav Mykytovych Korniienko. Many talented young people study here, and graduates work all over Ukraine. Now, a six-year student Maria Pashenka, is one of the best students of the department. During her study the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute she has made a significant progress in the scientific and engineering training. During recent years she has repeatedly received a scholarship named after one of the founders of the scientific school of the department, professor Y. I. Chornobylskyi. In her spare time, she is engaged in studying 3D-simulation programs in the design of the petrochemical and oil refining facilities.

Under the guidance of the Cand. Sc., docent D. M. Korinchuk, the student improves the drying process of a composite mixture of peat-biomass in the technological production of fuel briquettes. The results of the scientific work are published in two scientific articles, 10 international and all-Ukrainian scientific-practical conferences and 2 patents of Ukraine on the utility model. The result of the successful training was the Scholarship of the President of Ukraine.

Despite the active scientific work, Mariia takes part in the public, cultural and sports life of the university. She is fond of sports tourism, she loves to travel, read books and communicate with friends.

“Studying at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute helps to find your vocation, to understand what you want to do in the future. Thanks to the FChE, namely the MECPI Department, I achieve my goal, become a qualified specialist in the field of chemical engineering. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the teachers of the department for their fruitful work and patience, they taught me responsibility, purposefulness, they aroused my interest in learning and science in general. And soon I should defend my master’s thesis, but I already miss the student years”, the student said.
