Ivan Vladimirovich Tananaev (22.05[04.06].1904,  Serpove village, now Morshansk district of the Tambov region - 28.02.1993) - academician of the Academy of Science of the USSR (1958; member-correspondent of 1946). Chief editor of the journal "Inorganic materials" (from 1965).

In 1925 he graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Worked there. In 1934-1935 - worked at the Tbilisi Industrial Institute and at the Chemistry Institute of the Transcaucasus filial branch of the USSR. Since 1935 - worked at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences, he also taught at the Moscow Institute of Nonferrous metals and Gold (since 1940 - he became a professor).

Laureate of the National awards of the USSR (1949, 1951, 1971).

Basic scientific works are related to analytical and inorganic chemistry. He developed practically important methods for the determination of potassium, zinc, fluoride in fluorspar, apatites, phosphorites, etc. He suggested the method for the study of heterogeneous systems with low soluble components (the method of residual concentrations of Tananaev). He investigated fluorine compounds of actinides, other rare elements that allowed him to discover a number of regularities in the change of the properties of complex fluorine metals. He also developed the methods of obtaining ultrapure silicon, germanium, and other semiconductor elements. He established the regularities of the mixed ferrocyanides formation depending on the nature of the components of the heavy and alkaline metals, and he has developed ferrocyanide method of extraction of rubidium and cesium from solutions of potassium salts, he has created a number of inorganic ion exchangers, dyes, etc. He has conducted the physicochemical studies of phosphates of the polyvalent metals in a wide range of temperatures, wherewith he laid the foundations for the synthesis of technically important heat-resistant materials, new mineral binders, etc. He also worked in the field of chemistry of the rare elements, he was engaged in single crystals growing and their compounds.
