Among the winning projects of the Sikorsky Challenge 2017 Startup Contest, the development of a diverse range: from a nanosatellite and a student car to medical equipment. In particular, FBMI, in the project "Electrotherosurgical Instruments for Minimally Invasive and Endoscopic Operations, presented a set of tools for electrothermochemical equipment that allows for minimally invasive surgical interventions for a variety of surgical pathologies using 5 and 10 mm ports, fiber optic and intravascular technologies (see photo) . It will have financial support from the Fund of Scientific and Technical Development of Ukraine named after V.S. Milyhalevicha for conducting of clinical research and instrument production.

Faculty of Biomedical Engineering KPI named after Igor Sikorsky closely cooperates with the Institute of Electric Welding named after E.O.Paton the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and its engineers, where exactly such devices are produced. Most constructive solutions and surgical techniques are patented.

The presented development can be used in electrosurgical operations using endoscopic equipment (video gastroscopes, video colonoscopes), equipment for endoscopic coagulation of vessels and vascular welding using high-frequency current. The conducted marketing researches testify to the presence of demand for this type of equipment.

The set includes a probe for bipolar coagulation and vascular welding, the main difference and advantage of which is the flexibility and mobility of two working electrodes due to the use of an extension cord, which allows the electrodes to be brought into inaccessible areas and coagulate tissues more directed and controlled. The probe can be connected to a high-frequency electrosurgical coagulator of the EC-300-m1 type "PATONMED", EKVZ-300 "PATONMED", BTA-300 "PATONMED" or similar devices with the use of certain adapters.

As a set also provides bipolar inflexible probes with a diameter of 4 mm and a convection and infra red instrument for surgical manipulation, respectively, through the ports of 5 mm and 10 mm during endoscopic surgical interventions.

While surgically intervening, the wound area is treated with infra red convection flow and cut without a drop of blood. This is important for patients taking special medicines that dilute the blood and it does not coagulate, patients with hemophilia and others. In such cases, the proposed equipment is used. With its help you can not only stop the bleeding, but also disinfect the wound. That is, if there was a complication due to an infection, an inflammation of the gall bladder, for example, after such an operation there is no need to take antibiotics and to carry out special procedures. The wound, accordingly, heals much faster.
