On December 15, a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kiev Polytechnic Institute" took place.

At the meeting were present the Chairman of the Board the President of Ukraine (1994-2005) Leonid Kuchma, Deputy Chairman, the first astronaut of Independent Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine Leonid Kadenyuk, the rector of the Igor Sikorsky KPI, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykhailo Zgurovsky, members of the Supervisory Board — the President of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Stanislav Dovgy, the Head of the International Fund for Investment Promotion Viktor Ivchenko, the founder of the Fund by Academician V. Mykhalevich Mykola Petrenko, Chairman of the Board of OJSC "Meridian named after S.P. Korolev" Vyacheslav Protsenko, President of the Fund by academician V.Mihalevich, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Enterprises under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, president of the PETRUS Holding Company Lyudmila Rusalina, director of the Institute for Strategic Studies Pavel Gaidutsky, director of Politeko Sines City Bogdan Andriytsev, as well as vice-rectors and representatives of the university administration and acting Head of the Trade Union of University staff Mikhail Bezugly, and head of the Trade Union of Students Andrei Gavrushkevich.

A meeting was opened with awarding of the youngest winners of the Sikorsky Challenge 2017 Startup Competition. The prizes and diplomas of the Presidential Fund "Ukraine" were given to them by Leonid Kuchma, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of KPI by Igor Sikorsky, because during all years of the festival "Sikorsky Challenge", within which a contest of start-up projects is held, the Leonid Kuchma Foundation "Ukraine" was one of its sponsors and partners. Moreover, the Foundation annually rewords the best developments of young researchers participating in this competition. This year the projects that are socially oriented and designed to improve the quality of life of people, or to protect them were rewarded.

This year the "Ukraine" Foundation prize-winners became:

- Valery Tyshchenko, a student of the Kherson Physics and Technology Lyceum with the project "Converting three-dimensional mechanical vibrations to electricity";

- Ivan Seleznev, student of the electronics department of the Igor Sikorsky KPI with the project "OpenWorld - the system of navigation in the city infrastructure for people with visual impairment";

- Mikhail Dovgopoly, student of the Mechanical Engineering Institute of the Igor Sikorsky KPI with the project "Artificial knee joint with adaptive properties";

- Artem Korobov, a student of Sumy State University with the project "Creating an intellectual bionic prosthesis for the limb of the human body";

- Vera Rodionova, a student of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Igor Sikorsky KPI with the project "Dia-Safe Life - a prototype of the program complex for insulin-dependent patients";

- Mikhaylo Komashnya, a student of the Polytechnic Lyceum of the Igor Sikorsky KPI with the project "Increasing the protective function of the body armor";

- Maxim Terentyev, a student of the Kherson Physics and Technical Lyceum with the project "Development of the device for venous blood circulation improvement with the help of electric current";

- Yaroslav Chugai, student of the gymnasium №9 in Kropivnitsky with the project "Implementation of the city lighting system management through a single-phase electric grid within the concept of" Clever City ";

- Sergey Lisin, a student of the Polytechnic Lyceum of the Igor Sikorsky KPI with the project "Robot-fireman with the system of homing on the basis of computer vision".

After the awarding ceremony rector of the National Technical University of Ukraine " Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", the academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Mykhailo Zgurovskyi, presented to the members of the Supervisory Board and participants of the meeting the annual report on the results of the scientific-pedagogical and innovative activities of the University. In his speech he emphasized on the innovation and scientific component of the university's work: the report was called "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute as a model of the future high-tech economy of Ukraine".

"I want to draw your attention to those new features of the University's development which I consider to be strategically important both for the Igor Sikorsky KPI and for the system of higher technical education in Ukraine, which is an innovative development, the creation of a model of a major technical university, according to which it could become the engine of the development of individual industries, as well as the country as a whole, if we talk about its economy. All the efforts of our large team are directed at this point," he said, starting the report.

Therefore, his entire further story was devoted to the innovations that have recently appeared in the university's scientific and innovative activities, and the results of their implementation. And he finished his speech with the words "Our dream is to create for Ukraine a model of high-tech economy, and to constantly increase the state's defense capability".

The chairman of the Supervisory Board Leonid Kuchma summed up the results of the meeting, expressing the opinion on the need to extend the experience of the KPI to other technical higher educational institutions of Ukraine.
