Crystalline state of the substance

The film tells about structure and properties of crystals. The characteristics of different types of crystalline grids are described. The film shows the imperfect crystals configuration and their deformation. Finally, the peculiarities of usage of pure crystals and their flaws are observed.
In particular, the semi-conductors work and metals hardening is examined.

F-elements properties: lanthanides and actinides

We don’t suspect, how widely the metals, called “rare earth”, are used in our everyday life. The film describes their structural peculiarities and chemical properties. You will learn how these elements are detected, distinguished and divided. Also you will find the information about compounds of some lanthanides with metals and their usage in engineering. Great attention is paid to the usage of actinides in atomic power energetics.

Nitrogen, ammonia and nitric acid production

Having discovered Nitrogen, the scientists considered it to be “void of life”. Later on its role in the animated nature was revealed. The structure, chemical properties and industrial production of three substances, such as Nitrogen, ammonia and nitric acid are observed in the film. At the same time, nitrogen oxides are toxic substances, the result of burning of various fuel. Also you will learn, how the amount of nitrogen oxides is reduced when the industrial gases are discharged.

General properties of solutions

In 1887 D.I.Mendelyeyev completed an extensive research that formed the basis of modern ideas about solutions. The film is about what happens when various substances are dissolved, including thermal, volumetric effects, the formation of volatile compounds. Also the film observes the concept of solubility, what it is dependent on, what can influence it, in what way solids and gases dissolve in water.

Lipids, or fats

With film you will learn the difference between simple and complex lipids, their structure and properties, about vegetable fats production, the compound and manufacturing of soap and margarine. The reactions that are the basis for the processing of fats are observed in detail. Namely, hydrogenation, hydrolysis, saponification and transesterification.

The films are based on the film archives of technical training department NTUU "KPI".
