Kyiv Polytechnic is a unique environment, where under the tutelage of internationally-recognized scientists, the founders of scientific schools grow young faculty. Years pass, and former students, gaining knowledge and experience, become mentors for young people who seek a new and unexplored.

One of the elders of the Kiev Polytechnic can rightly be called a Professor of physics of metals IFF Yuri Nikolaevich Pharmacy, which this year became the winner of the contest "Teacher-researcher in 2014. Of KPI's his connection already 43 years of life. After graduating in 1967 study at the Department of physics of metals (at the time at MFF) worked nine years in x-ray Department of the Institute of metal physics, Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 1973 he defended his thesis, which was performed under the supervision of professors L. I. Lysak and Would.And.Nikolina students at G. V. Kurdyumov, the founder of scientific fields "physical material science" and "physics of metals".

In 1976 U. M. Pharmacy was invited to work in the laboratory of vacuum technology KPI created on the Department of General physics and solid state physics. In those years, rapidly developing microelectronics and mkrobiologiya, so it was necessary in the creation of thin films of various functional purposes. Acquired knowledge and experience J. M. Makogon used in the new at the time, science – templavoila materials science. Over the years the CRPD was the scientific supervisor and the responsible executor of a number of state-funded contract research work in physical science that have brought significant economic impact. In 1993 he defended his doctoral thesis, scientific consultants were Professor S. I. Sidorenko and N. In.Belous.

The results of the research of Y. M. Pharmacy was interested in and foreign colleagues: in 1983-1984 he trained at the Technical University Chemnitz (Germany); ibid., in 1999 and 2002, he conducted research work on grants of the DAAD. In 1990 and 1995 as a Professor and researcher has received grants from the Soros Foundation (USA), in 2002 passed a two-month research internship at the University of Debrecen (Hungary).

Since 1998, Yuri Nikolaevich works at the Department of physics of metals of the RFEF. His scientific research is in line with the priority direction of development of science and technology and the start-technological directions in 2011-2021, the creation of the industry of nanomaterials and nanotechnology, which is the basis for devices with nanoscale features. Today the Department is a large emphasis on new scientific topics: the formation of stable nanosized FePt films as a medium of magnetic recording and storage of information of high density, and the formation of nanoscale films on the basis СoSb3 with increased thermoelectricity as functional elements of thermoelectricity.

Ongoing scientific cooperation with German and Hungarian colleagues who work on similar topics, in particular in the framework of the joint student research and master thesis. Go scientific articles in journals with high impact factor. 3 2003 J. M. Makogon – head 28 and two master's thesis 10 the grants of the DAAD in the framework of the program. L. Euler. Research work enables students to acquire practical skills and knowledge in the field of regularities of formation of phase composition, structure and properties of nanoscale films.

The research activity of Professor Y. M. Pharmacy is inextricably linked with the educational process. He teaches disciplines "Cocoplum materials", "Structure and properties of solids in liquid, amorphous and templavoila States", "Physics of coatings and films", "Construction materials", manages course and diploma works of students. Yuri Nikolaevich was supervisor of three PhD theses and one doctoral Advisor works that have been successfully defended. Today supervises three PhD students.

Y. M. Makogon is a specialist in the field of formation of phase composition and nanoscale patterns of metal films for various purposes. He has more than 370 scientific publications, 5 patents, 3 monographs. Is a member of the dissertation Council D 26.168.02 Institute for metal physics of NAS of Ukraine. G. V. Kurdyumov, a member of the new York Academy of Sciences.

Research and teaching activities Prof. Y. M. Pharmacy is focused on streamlining and development of ideas about the features of nanostructured materials, in particular nanoscale metal films and the reflection of this in the prepared courses of lectures, laboratory and practical training, training of modern specialists-metaloptics.
