Sports orienteering is a very exciting type of sport that requires enormous sportsmen’ endurance, speed of thinking and attentiveness, i.e. physical and intellectual training at once.

Sportsmen-orientors had a tense season. The university team consists of representatives from various sports orienteering schools of Ukraine: from Kyiv and Luhansk, from Sumy and Severodonetsk, from Lutsk and Yuzhnoukrainsk, from Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk and from the Khmelnytskyi Oblast. Students participate in local, national and international competitions. In September there was Ukrainian Championship on bike orienteering in Kiev. Alina Krimtseva (HTF) took the first place in the middle- and long-distance races and won according to the final result in multisport competition. Student Oleksii Uskov (VPI) took the second place in the sprint race, the first place in the middle-distance race and the third place in the long-distance race and also he took the second place in Ukrainian Championship on bike orienteering.

In October there were All-Ukrainian competitions "Kyiv-Open". Inna Poberezhets (HTF) won a bronze medal according to the final result of two-distance competion; Vlad Kirichok (MMI) also won the third place in the junior youth group.

In November there were All-Ukrainian competitions "Holosiivska fall" in Kiev. In the individual competition, Mikhailo Afanasiev (FEA) was the winner, Alexander Kochin (FTI) took the second place, Andrii Akimenko (FPM) finished second in the middle-distance, and Yurii Mishchuk (FMM) won a bronze medal. In the category of beginners Olexii Shpringer (IPSA) showed the best results (first place). During the year Oleksandr Kochin (FTI) was taken prize-winning places in Kyiv championships.

In March there was an individual championship of Ukraine in Kherson oblast, in Tsjurupinsk. Alina Krimtseva won two awards: a silver and a bronze. Mikhailo Afanasiev and Inna Poberezhets showed good results in the junior youth group.

In April there was the Championship and the Cup of Ukraine in Kiev. KPI students M.Afanasiev, O.Uskov, A.Krimtseva, I.Poberezhets, Yu.Mishchuk, O.Kochin and V.Kirichok represented Kyiv team in four distances. A.Krimtseva took the third place in the individual competition in the sprint race. Kyiv team representatives Inna Poberezhets and Alina Kramtseva (HTF) took the second place in the relay. Oleksandr Kochin (FTI) successfully overcame the middle distance finishing fourth. The hardest and the most prolonged distances in the women category were taken by Alina Krimtseva (the third place) and Inna Poberezhets (the second place).

On May holidays there was a team championship of Ukraine in Sumy. A long distance in mountainous terrain was successfully overcome by Mikhailo Afanasiev who won a bronze medal. Alina Krimtseva finished a middle-distance race taking the third place. Kyiv junior team which included Mikhailo Afanasiev won in the relay. Meeting the standard of master of sports of Ukraine, Alina Krimtseva took the second place in the category of Kyiv elite teams in the relay.

We cannot fail to point out the support of the department of sports perfection, department of the KPI educational work, the support of HTF, VPI, FEA, FTI, MMI, FPM and ITC management which greatly contributes to the respectable sportsmen-orientors’ representation of our university in Kyiv and Ukrainian championships and international competitions.
