The Department of General Physics is part of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Igor Sikorskyi KPI. The main task of the department is to train students in the field of physics. The teachers of the department conduct classes at the physics-mathematics, radio engineering, thermal energy faculties, biomedical engineering, electrical power engineering and automation, electronics, informatics and computing, applied mathematics, as well as at the Institute of Energy Conservation and Energy Management, the Institute of Materials Science and Welding named after E.O. Paton, Institute of Applied System Analysis, Institute of Special Communication and Information Protection.

There are 11 professors, 10 associate professors, 13 senior lecturers and 9 assistants, among them 11 doctors of science and 18 candidates of science.

The department provides teaching of general physics for undergraduate students of all the above-mentioned faculties, as well as courses in theoretical physics, mechanics and electrodynamics of continuous media, solid state physics, physics of macroscopic quantum phenomena, astrophysics, the history of the development of basic physical concepts and other special disciplines at the physics and mathematics faculty for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students.

In addition, the teachers of the department take an active part in scientific research in the field of solid-state physics, physics of magnetic phenomena, magneto-optics, low-temperature physics, etc.

The department operates a laboratory of tunneling microscopy, which is a national asset. The department's employees also cooperate with institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in particular the Institute of Magnetism of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
