October 30, the International Forum "The interaction of universities, government and business for the development of a sustainable society" started its work at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute".
The concept of sustainable development is based on a systematic approach to the design of economic development taking into account the environmental features of the planet Earth. By definition UN Commission on Sustainable Development, the objective of sustainable development is to meet the needs of a modern society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. Therefore, this concept is the result of a combination of three main areas of development - economic, social and environmental.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Roman Vashchuk (for him - NTUU "KPI" - the first Ukrainian university, which he visited in the status of ambassador); Vice President of the University Winnipeg city Neil Besner and members of its administration and faculties, the first vice-president of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Sergey Prokhorov, director of the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine Dmitry Cheberkus, Rector of NTUU "KPI" NAS of Ukraine academician Michael Zgurovsky, President of the Kyiv School of Economics Yuri Logush and others.
The University Winnipeg (Canada) and the Kyiv School of Economics are co-organizers of the forum besides NTUU”KPI”.
"We are gathered to discuss the theoretical and practical aspects of policy strategies for sustainable development in Ukraine, learn from the experience of our main partner in Canada - Winnipeg University - said, opening the forum Rector of NTUU" KPI "Michael Zgurovsky. - We also plan to further explore the experience of the University of Winnipeg on the implementation of the idea of "green campus" in practice, which has allowed the University of Winnipeg almost halved in recent years, consumption of heat and electricity. "
Between NTUU "KPI" and the University of Winnipeg it is established fairly close cooperation. Last year, it was also reinforced by the cooperation agreement.
"We have long and sincere relations with Ukraine and our responsibility to establish a more intimate relationship with Ukrainian leading educational institutions and supporters of the introduction of the concept of sustainable development - said in his speech Neil Bssner. - This forum allows us to share experiences and learn from each other, thus benefiting our faculty, students, and, not least, the wider community. "
There are many things to learn from Canada colleagues. University Winnipeg is an environmental leader among Canadian universities. The ideology of sustainable development is everywhere in the organization of life in its campus. This applies to issues of heat and water, energy, waste disposal, and the like. For many years, the University of Winnipeg reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and last year the figure was 6% less than in 1990, despite the fact that during the same period, the area of its buildings has increased by 36%! So a lot of experience, which the University has accumulated in the implementation of "green" and energy-saving technologies in the life support system of their activities, can be very useful for Ukrainian universities.
"Issues of sustainability, energy efficiency are not only questions of introduction of green technologies, but are also the questions of strict geopolitical necessity, the State Security ... Therefore relationship, establishing during the forum, the agreements that can be achieved, and the development of ideas can be spread throughout Ukraine. And inventions and energy-saving technologies will benefit from all your fellow citizens ... "- said, welcoming the participants of the scientific meeting, Canadian Ambassador Roman Vashchuk.
The first plenary session of the forum was opened with a lecture of Rector of NTUU "KPI" Michael Zgurovsky "Modeling sustainable development: a global and regional context." It was devoted to the analysis of common problems facing humanity, made through the use of indicators of sustainable development and taking into account the factors of vulnerability of individual countries and regions of the world to the threat of economic, environmental and social. Such a synthesis view on the question of the need for sustainable development set the tone for the subsequent discussion as purely scientific and practical problems quite practical implementation of the basic ideas on which to base this concept.
It should be noted that the forum was preceded by a meeting of experts on energy and representatives from the University of Winnipeg and Administration Services Energy KPI, during which visitors from Canada acquainted with the activities of the Council of NTUU "KPI" on energy saving, visited the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management NTUU "KPI" and Training Centre for Renewable Energy at the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and Automation. At the Center for Restorative Energy the Skype conference was held with the Technical Staff of the University of Winnipeg, dedicated to the optimization of energy and experience that have accumulated in this sphere by the colleagues overseas. During the final meeting Canadian experts made a number of recommendations for the use of their developments in the KPI and exchanged with the Ukrainian colleagues considerations on the introduction of new technologies of energy supply and energy efficiency in the energy system of the modern university. These advises for NTUU "KPI" are particularly important also because, in the framework of the above-mentioned agreements, KPI and Winnipeg University plan to collaborate on the project "Green Campus".
So for two days Ukrainian and Canadian scientists will consider the practical aspects of implementing the concept of sustainable development, the Canadian experience in the implementation of the daily life of modern environment-friendly and energy-saving technologies at the same time, the possibility of implementing similar programs in Ukraine, as well as the problems that can occur in this path. They work on panels, sections "Corporate Responsibility universities, business and government in sustainable development", "Economic and social aspects of sustainable development" and "Technological aspects of sustainable development."
