The Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of the German Language was founded in 2000 after the reorganization of the Department of Foreign Languages ​​No. 2 of the Faculty of Linguistics.

The head of the department in the past - associate professor, candidate of philological sciences, professor of the department of the TPPNM Lysenko Helena Ludvigivna - gathered a team of highly qualified employees - professors, associate professors and senior teachers who faithfully fulfill their professional duties. Since March 2021, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor of the department Lazebna Olena Anatolivna has been performing the duties of the head of the department. Scientific and pedagogical staff of the department take an active part in the educational and scientific life of Ukraine and Germany, work on international programs, participate in international scientific and scientific-methodological seminars and conferences, increase the level of professional and methodical qualifications, undergo internships in European countries and in leading universities of Ukraine.

To date, the concept of the development of the department is directly related to the reform of the education system.

Priority issues for the department are the implementation of multimedia learning technologies, strengthening of the scientific potential of the department by involving young specialists in scientific work, improvement of teaching methods and implementation of necessary changes in accordance with modern provisions and requirements of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

At the department of theory, practice and translation of the German language, students study in the specialty 035 Philology in three educational programs: first (bachelor) level of higher education, second (master) level of higher education and third (PhD) level of higher education in the specialization 035.043 "Germanic languages ​​and of literature (including translation), the first is German". The goals and programmatic results of educational programs allow graduates to be fluent in two foreign languages ​​- German and English, to solve complex specialized tasks of translation activities, to implement and ensure intercultural professional interaction of representatives of the scientific and technical community, to conduct scientific research in the field of philology and translation, etc. In 2020, the department successfully accredited two educational programs (bachelor's and master's levels).

Graduates of the department of theory, practice and translation of the German language are highly qualified specialists who perform their professional activities at a highly competitive level in various domestic and foreign organizations: Ukrainian representative offices of German enterprises, the Goethe Institute in Ukraine (Goethe Institut), tourist and advertising agencies, language schools, translation bureaus, and many other prestigious organizations. A significant number of graduates continue their studies in Germany and Austria and work in foreign firms and companies. In order to employ its graduates, the department of theory, practice and translation of the German language concludes cooperation agreements with solid domestic organizations and involves stakeholders in cooperation.

The department of theory, practice and translation of the German language has established contacts with international partners with the aim of involving them both in the educational process and in further employment. Within the framework of cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service "DAAD", there is a permanent practice of involving German speakers and lecturers of the organization in classroom classes. Currently, the department employs lecturer Michael Kleineberg, with whom a 5-year contract has been concluded. Для студентів та науково-педагогічних працівників кафедри постійно влаштовуються семінари, майстер-класи, воркшопи та курси підвищення кваліфікації з метою оптимізації та модернізації освітнього процесу. Студентам та працівникам кафедри регулярно надається право участі в межах академічної мобільності у програмі «Еразмус+».

Our students demonstrate high achievements thanks to active participation in international scientific and practical conferences, take prizes at translation competitions and Olympiads and regularly receive grants and scholarships from international organizations, as well as being socially active and engaged participants in the student life of our university.
