The department of theory, practice and translation of the French language was founded in 2000 and is currently headed by candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Zhanna Volodymyrivna Buts. The department employs 13 scientific and pedagogical workers, including 2 professors, 7 associate professors, 1 candidate of sciences (senior teacher), 2 senior teachers, 1 teacher.

At the department of theory, practice and translation of the French language, students study in the specialty 035 Philology in three educational programs: the first (bachelor) level of higher education, the second (master) level of higher education and the third (PhD) level of higher education in the specialization 035.055 "Romance languages ​​and of literature (including translation), the first is French".

The goals and programmatic results of educational programs allow graduates to be fluent in two foreign languages ​​- French and English (optionally - a third German), to solve complex specialized tasks of translation activities, to carry out and ensure intercultural professional interaction of representatives of the scientific and technical community, to conduct scientific research in the field of philology and translation, etc.

Starting from the 3rd year of the bachelor's degree, students master the translation of professional scientific and technical texts, commercial documents, patents, etc., work with modern authentic documents concluded in French. By training future specialists, educational programs form the skills of first of all branch translation, provide an opportunity for students to expand the field of their future professional activity by acquiring knowledge from other fields and mastering a third (German) language by studying the educational components of free choice, allow graduates to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in the practical work of a translator and in research activities in the fields of philology and translation.

In addition to mandatory subjects, students have the opportunity to choose from a large list of subjects to choose from (elective subjects make up 25% of the total volume of the Educational Program). The catalog of optional subjects can be found on the website of the department).

The department of theory, practice and translation of the French language has established contacts with international partners in order to involve them both in the educational process and in further employment. Within the framework of cooperation with the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine, there is a constant practice of involving French speakers, teachers of the French Institute in Ukraine, DELF-DALF coordinators in classroom classes.

Students of the department study the latest communication methods of Slé International, Didier, Express Publishing, and have access to the Culturethèque information resource thanks to an agreement with the French Institute in Ukraine and the Alliance Française.

Our students take an active part in international scientific and practical conferences organized on the basis of Igor Sikorsky KPI and other institutions of higher education, thus improving their knowledge of scientific and technical translation.

KPI named after Igor Sikorsky signed an agreement on cooperation and academic mobility (Erasmus+K1) of students within the framework of the "Distance Learning" program (Le Mans University (Le Mans Université, LeMans, France) and the international academic mobility program of students (Dumlupinar University (Kyutagya, Republic of Turkey); Polytechnic University of Valencia (Valencia, Kingdom of Spain); University of Groningen (Groningen, Kingdom of the Netherlands); Friedrich Schiller Jena University (Jena, Federal Republic of Germany); Catholic University of Leuven (Leuven, Kingdom of Belgium); University of Luxembourg (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg).

Graduates of the department of theory, practice and translation of the French language are highly qualified specialists who perform their professional activities at a highly competitive level in various domestic and foreign organizations: Ukrainian representative offices of French enterprises, the French Institute in Ukraine (Institut français d'Ukraine), the French Embassy in Ukraine , travel and advertising agencies, language schools, translation bureaus, and many other prestigious organizations. A significant number of graduates continue their studies in France, Belgium and other French-speaking countries and work in foreign firms and companies.
