On September 22, 2017, the Head of the Department of Heat Engineering and Energy Conservation IEE Valeriy Ivanovich Deshko celebrated his jubilee. The whole life of this outstanding person, a scientist and a talented teacher is connected with the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. In 1971 he graduated with honor from the Heat and Power Faculty of KPI. In 1979, he defended his Ph.D. thesis, in 1993 - a doctor's degree; since 1995, he is a professor, since 2002 - a Head of the Department of Heat Engineering and Energy Saving IEE. V.I. Deshko is a Head of scientific projects, a member of the Scientific and Methodological Commission on Energy of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the section "Energy and Energy Efficiency" of the Coordinating Board of the State Institute of Informatics, Technical Committee "Energy Efficiency of Buildings and Structures" of the Ministry of Regional Development, Scientific and Technical Council of Igor Sikorskiy KPI, two specialized academic councils, editorial board of the scientific journal "Power engineering: economics, technology, ecology", etc.

Valeriy Ivanovich's scientific researches are devoted to a wide range of problems: complex heat exchange during crystallization, energy efficiency improvement, modeling and research of energy conversion processes, energy audit and certification, system approach to energy saving of buildings, energy management, etc. V.I. Deshko is the author of more than 300 scientific works, including 13 articles included in the Scopus science-centered bases, five monographs, six textbooks, including two manuals for pupils. From 2008 to 2016, he became the winner of the annual "Lecturer-Researcher" contest eight times. In recent years, he has prepared six candidates of sciences; two candidate's theses will be defended in the near future.  

Valery Ivanovich is one of the organizers of the training of energy management specialists in Ukraine. He actively participates in conducting the All-Ukrainian scientific competition "Youth - Energy of Ukraine", the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad on the specialty "Energy Management".

V.I. Deshko participated as an organizer and coach in many training / advanced training programs in the field of energy, including: "Development and implementation of energy management system in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 50001 at the enterprises of DTEK LLC"; "Energy Management in Municipalities", implemented by GIZ; "Promoting the Development of Social Infrastructure", implemented by the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund with the support of the Government of Germany; "Retraining and social adaptation of servicemen and their families in Ukraine" (project "Ukraine-Norway"); "Energy audit" (Center for Energy Managers Training) and others. Valeriy Ivanovich is a participant of international projects under the programs Tacis, Tempus, Intas, Inco-Copernicus, including Ukrainian-Norwegian co-operation for higher education in the interests of sustainable energy development.

V.I.Deshko is an attentive and friendly teacher and scientific leader, ready to provide active assistance to masters and students - the future of power engineering. For many of them, he is an example, and IEE is the first step towards building a career in energy supply management, energy audit of enterprises, institutions and buildings, energy management, heating engineering, non-traditional energy sources, etc. He actively engages students in scientific work.

As a true chairman of the department, Valery Ivanovich "holds his hand on the pulse," coordinates and controls the educational, methodological and educational work of the department, is a true generator of scientific and organizational ideas. By permanently supporting young teachers and involving young people in the educational process, he encourages improving and teaching methods, introducing new interesting and relevant topics in the disciplines and directions of scientific researches of masters.

Valeriy Ivanovich is an intelligent, talented and extremely diverse person. In addition, he has an active lifestyle: he baths in open waters until cold weather, is a member of the KPI veterans' football section. He also has a lovely loving family and four grandchildren.
