Pushkin Museum

More than two decades ago in Kiev has another cultural center - Pushkin Museum. Its foundation was collection of Jacob Berdichevsky, which was donated to the city. Placed the museum in a historic building of XIX century at 9 Kudryavska.

Among the most valuable exhibits - books signed by the author's friends and contemporaries of Pushkin. The pride of the museum is a lifetime editions of the poet's works, including some chapters of the novel "Eugene Onegin". It should be noted that the novel published in parts (they were called "notebooks", measuring about 10 x 15 cm) for seven years until March 1833 the world did not see the full text (this edition also takes its pride of place in the exhibition). In the museum are the first edition of "Ruslan and Lyudmila", "Southern poems," "Bakhchisarai fountain", "Prisoner of kozak". Statue of the poet in the full-length, made by sculptor O.Terebenyevym in 1837 attracts attention of visitors. An interesting exhibit is the journal "Sowremenik", wich Pushkin published. The front page is permit censorship Krylov. A valuable exhibit is the collection book of Napoleon, was presented for the great general by his surgeon Sabatier. It is known that Pushkin twice came to Kyiv. For the first time, in 1820, he spent 1-2 days in city, when went to Ekaterinoslav from St. Petersburg with instructions to general I.Inzova. The second time was here at the beginning of 1821-th. He received permission to visit Kamenka, when he served in Chisinaut - the estate of David - his friends, who were relatives of General Rajewski. In late January, the whole company came to Kyiv, where the poet spent about two weeks. Sometimes in literature one can mention alleged, the poet visited here again in late 1822, but there's no documentary evidence.

Few people know that the poem "Ruslan and Ludmila" is devoted to Kyiv. "On seashore far a green oak towers... - a garden of Kyiv says Ludmila, she was the daughter of knyaz Vladimir the Red Sun and Ruslan fought with pechenihy under the walls of our capital," - said in the Pushkin museum.
