Regulation on the annual competition for the best academic group of the university



General provisions

The competition for the best academic group of a faculty(an institute) and the university is held among the academic groups of faculties(institutes) and the university.

The aim of the competition is to improve the quality of students’ performance, to promote scientific, social and public activities among the student body of KPI.

The competition for the best academic group is announced at the beginning of an academic year and lasts until the beginning of the following year. The outcome of the competition for a preceding year is announced at the beginning of a current year.

There are two levels of the competition: the stage of a faculty(an institute) and the university stage.

The competition on the level of a faculty(an institute)

The competition on a faculty or in an institute is held by the administration, student council and the student trade union bureau of a faculty(an institute) by collecting and processing data on the academic groups of a faculty(an institute).

The outcome of the competition is determined in two stages.

The chief criterion on the first stage is a grade point average of the group based on the results of winter and summer examinations. When calculating an average grade of the group, the performance of both tuition-free and tuition students is taken into consideration.

To determine the result on the second stage, a panel is assembled on a faculty or in an institute which consists of deputy dean(director) for work with the students(the head of the committee), the head of the student council and the head of the student trade union bureau of a faculty or an institute. The decision of the committee is recorded in the minutes and the order of the dean.

On the second stage, the selection of the groups are based on the following criteria:

  • students’ scientific publications inside and outside the university;
  • the publications of the students of the group in university and Ukrainian media as well as in foreign periodicals;
  • involvement of the students of the group in the public life of a faculty(an institute) or the university;
  • participation of the students of the group in scientific conferences, workshops, symposiums and contests inside and outside the university;
  • scholarship holders, award winners and laureates of various competitions in the group;
  • the holders of distinctions, prizes, commendations and other forms of encouragement given by various institutions, organizations and public authorities;
  • involvement of the students of the group in events aimed at the maintenance of law and order on the university campus;
  • involvement of the students of the group in various sporting events and winning prizes;
  • participation of the students in amateur arts;

The winner is determined according to the results of the competition.

The committee decision on the winner of the competition on a faculty(an institute) level is recorded in the minutes.

The winner, the runner-up and the group which took the 3rd place are rewarded with certificates and prizes.

The prizes are paid from the social security fund to students, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.

The minutes, the report and the draft order on rewarding the winning group are to be submitted until 1st November of the current year to the room № 233, academic building №1.

The faculties or institutes that failed to submit the documents in time drop out of the competition.

The university level

On the university level, the competition is held by administration, student council and the student trade union committee of the university by collecting and processing data on the academic groups of faculties(institutes), which won the contest on faculty(institute) level.

The assessment of the best academic groups on the university level is also carried out in two stages.

The chief criterion on the first stage is a grade point average of the group based on the results of winter and summer examinations.

To determine the result on the second stage, a panel is assembled on a faculty or in an institute which consists of academic vice-president(the head of the panel), head of the student council and the head of the student trade union committee of KPI. The panel decision is recorded in the minutes and is issued as the order of the rector.

The selection of the groups on the second stage are based on the same criteria as on the second stage of the first level.

According to the reseults of the competition, the winner, the runner-up and the group that takes the 3rd place are chosen. These groups are awarded the certificates with the rector’s signature. In addition to this

  • the winner on the university level is awarded a sightseeing tour to the cultural attractions of Ukrainian history and money reward, and the group photo will be placed in the KPI gallery of winners;
  • the runner-up and the group that too the 3rd place receive money reward.

The panel decision is recorded in the minutes.

The prizes are paid from the social security fund to students, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.
